Wednesdays Doctor Visit

Hi Everyone - This is Jack and he wants to tell you all about Shari's doctor visit this past Wednesday. Well, we thought Shari was through with her chemo treatments but were wrong. The last c-scan showed a small nodule in her abdomen and they are not sure if it is scar tissue or lingering cancer cells. To be on the safe side, Shari will take at least two more regular chemo treatments with the two combined chemo medicines as she has been doing the past nine times. If the nodule recedes in size then we'll know it is cancer and then she will take two extra treatments with only one medicine. If the nodule stays the same size after the first two treatments, then we will know it is scar tissue. Well, we will just pray that the nodule is scar tissue and not cancer, OK? As you can see by my picture that all this typing has made me sleepy so I'll thank you for your prayers and take a snooze.

Love,
Jack (really dad/Bob)

Hi everyone,

We went to the doctor yesterday and got a good report. Shari has her last chemo treatment Monday the 20th. Then we go back to do a CT scan on the 29th to check her out. I will let everyone know the results as soon as we know. Keep praying for her as The Lord is answering all of our prayers.

Hello All - As you can see, Bo looks pretty happy about Shari's doctor visit Wednesday! The doctor gave Shari a good report except for the outcome of the cat scan. She has a fluid mass in her right lower abdomen that will probably be absorbed by her body. If it doesn't then they will drain it after her last chemo treatment in a about 6 weeks or so. This is not unusual after a massive operation such as Shari had. We'll wait and see in 6 weeks. The other good news is that Shari doesn't have to give herself those Lovenox shots in the stomach anymore! GOD is great and everything is on schedule for Shari's healing, thank you all for your prayers.

Sincerely,
Dad/Bob

Hello All - Shari had her check up yesterday with her oncologists. After telling the doctor about the emergency room visit, Dr. Rhomendata examined her and found a blood sack in her lower abdomen. She said that this is not uncommon after a surgery such as Shari had and that further tests are oncoming. Well, we go back to the hospital this Sunday for a cat scan and that should tell what the problem is. Then we go back to her doctor to see what the outcome is. I will update after we know the answer.

Love ya'll,
Dad/Bob

Hi everybody,
Shari had a little set back Sunday. For the last three days she has been feeling ill and nauseated with lower abdominal pain. We went to the emergency room Sunday and they diagnosed her with most likely, diverticulitis. That's due to several causes such as acid build up and the doctor moving her intestines over as she operated on Shari. Well, the bowels don't like to be disturbed and they shut down for a while and that sometimes causes this symptom. As the intestines wake up after the operation, they don't function well and this can cause diverticulitis. Shari has a lot of pain with this and is taking medicine to combat it. Just thought I'd let you all know so you can pray for her. Thank you all!

Shari's Last Series of Chemo

Hello Everyone - Yesterday, Monday, was Shari's first chemo treatment of a series of three that she will under go to make sure the cancer cells are killed. It wasn't too bad of a day for her but she says that going there each time is like going back to work after you've given your final notice. You kinda get a little queezee in the stomach because of how your boss usually resents you leaving before he can fire you. Not really but she doesn't like it. Well, she goes back in three weeks for the second round. I'll post then if no new news is current. Pray for her.
Love,
Dad/Bob

Hi Everybody - Well, we went to the hospital yesterday morning for Shari to take her 1st chemo treatment after her operation but it was a no go. Last Wednesday we went and had blood drawn for her blood work. They told us when we got there yesterday that Shari's blood count was too low and that she needed a blood transfusion. Well by the time the two units of blood arrived, it was an all day affair just like when she goes for her chemo treatment. She did sleep all night for the first time since her operation and that was a blessing. I'll take her back this Monday for her chemo treatment and then after that she'll have two more and we'll hopefully be done with them!
Here I am again asking for your prayers and thanking you all for your past ones as they have done their job for Shari.
Love you all,
Dad/Bob

Shari's Post Operative Checkup

Hi All - We went to the doctor on Wednesday for Shari's post operative visit. They took out her staples which was not painful at all. Dr. Rhomendetta said that the biopsies were negative as far as the other organs she took out but there was cancer in her ovaries and the fatty tissue above them. I can't remember what clinical term she used for the fatty tissue. This was great news! Shari will go through three more chemo treatments to make sure they kill any cancer cells that are floating around in there. Then she will go back every 3 months to make sure no cancer has returned. The doctor was pleased with Shari's recovery from the operation and she should start her first of the three chemo treatments in two weeks. GOD is great because he has answered all our prayers for Shari during this trying time. Thank you all for your love and prayers! I will update you when any news becomes available.
Sincerely and with love,
Dad/Bob

EUREKA! I brought Shari home from the hospital yesterday at about 5:30 pm. Of course, they told us that she could go home at 11am and we left the hospital at 4:30. I just can't understand why it takes sooooooooooo loooooooooooooog to be discharged. Same damn thing in my case each time I went into the hospital. Anyway, she's home and doing better and slept good probably for the first time since going in to the hospital. Will keep up with the blog until Shari is in complete remission. Our prayers are being answered; thank you all!

Hospital Stay

Hello All,
Today is Shari's third day in the hospital. Yesterday she got up and walked the halls in her section three or four times. She is making progress but still has a lot of pain but says the pain is getting somewhat better. Shari is still on a liquid diet, broth, popcycles, juice and the such so maybe today she can have some solid food but we will see. I hope today will be a great improvement in her healing and that she can go home tomorrow, Monday. That's what Dr. Rhomendetta seems to be shooting for on her recovery. Thank you all again for your prayers!

Dear Family and Friends,
Shari had her surgery yesterday. She went into the operation at 9am and came out at 1:30 pm and was in recovery until 4pm. Dr. Rommendetta said the operation was a complete success as far as she was concerned. Only area that had cancer was her ovaries but she did a complete hysterectomy and took out her appendix also. When Shari was 12, they were supposed to have taken her appendix out then, figure that! Now she will do 2 or 3 more bouts of chemo to make sure none of the "litt'l buggers" come back. If Shari stays in remission for the next year then she has a good chance of the cancer not returning. Dr. Rommendetta said that she was very pleased with the outcome as of course are we. Shari is on the second floor, section - 2B, room 5 and bed 1 in LBJ Hospital on Kelly St., Houston, TX. She will be there for 4 to 5 days depending on her recovery. I thank each and every one of you for your prayers because GOD heard them and delivered his promise. Please keep 'em coming for Shari's speedy and complete recovery!
Sincerely & with love,
Dad/Bob

Shari's upcoming surgery

Shari went to her oncologist today and got the go ahead for her surgery next week on the 8Th. We will go to LBJ Hospital at 6:00am and she will be prepped for surgery. The surgery will take 3 to 4 hours depending on what they find. She will then be in the hospital for 4 to 5 days recovering; shorter if she progresses well. Pray that GOD will guide the surgeons and to get all the cancer and that Shari will not be in pain and recover quickly. I will keep everyone up to date daily as Shari progresses.
Thank you all,
Bob/Dad

Shari's June Update

Dear Family & Friends,

Shari had a consultation with her oncologist Wed. the 4th and Dr. Rhomendetta was very happy with Shari's progress and cancer remission! Shari took her last chemo treatment (#6) in this series before surgery on July 8th. We will go back for a cat scan on June 17th and if all is as the doc. expects, then her operation/hysterectomy will follow on the 8th. Shari will be in the hospital for about 4 days recovering. We know that your prayers and thoughts have made a great deal of healing power for Shari and that GOD has heard all your prayers and is making a miracle out of her. Thank you so much!

GREAT NEWS!!!!!!

Shari had an appointment with her oncologist this morning and we got blessed news. First the cancer in her female organs have diminished immensely. Second, Shari may not have liver cancer. The radiologists that read her cat scan do not think the masses in her liver are cancer. They think that they may be benign growths as the chemo has not effected them. This is a possible sign that it is not cancer of the liver. Shari will have two or three more chemo treatments and then her doctor will look at performing surgery
at that time. We all are excited about the news but are aware of the cancer and how it can trick you so we are vigil in our excitement. Shari and I have faith that GOD will keep working his miracle on her and she will be cancer free soon. Your prayers have helped Shari so much, so keep 'em coming.
Thank you,
Dad/Bob
ps - I ran out of pictures of Shari so I'm putting other pictures on the blog. That's Jack, our Yorkie.

5-5-10 update on Shari

Dear All - I took Shari to have a cat scan Monday and we went back to the doctors yesterday for the results and they are as follows. We got good news and bad news. The cancer in Shari's female organs has diminished greatly which is good. The cancer in her liver has not diminished which is bad. Shari was to go into the hospital next Thursday to have a complete hysterectomy but that is on hold at this point. She will now undergo two or three more chemo treatments to see if the liver cancer can be dealt with, then maybe the operation can be done. Shari and I both thank everyone for their prayers and love! Keep praying that The Lord will make a miracle out of Shari as he did me.

Shari's Operation

Dear Family & Friends,

We went to Shari's oncologist yesterday and this is her summation. The chemo treatments seem to be doing their job but a cat scan is ordered to be sure. Shari will go take the scan in a couple of weeks and if no new cancer is found and if the present cancer has diminished then an operation is in order. Shari will go into the hospital on 5/14/10 and a complete hysterectomy will be performed. They may have to take some of her intestines if the cancer has affected it also but they will not know until they get in there. We are now going to her 4th bout with chemo today and that should help out. Will let you all know of any changes.

Dear Family & Friends,

Shari has felt great the past week! Last Friday her sister Kathy and Kathy's daughter, Robin came down from Shreveport and visited us. Shari had a good time while they were here. They went to Old Town Spring Saturday. We went to Joe's Crab Shack Sunday for lunch and the food was great. They left that afternoon and went back home. Shari goes for her fourth chemo treatment on the 16th so we hope they will evaluate her after that treatment to see what needs to be done next. Keep those prayer's coming!

Week Of 3/21/10 update on Shari

Good Morning Family & Friends,

Shari has had a pretty good week this past week but it has been filled with going to the doctor/hospital and such. Monday, I took her to get a mammogram and we should know it's results soon. Tuesday I went to see my cardiologist and she said I still have a heart although some of you don't think so, NO, JUST KIDDING. Wednesday we went back to the clinic for a check up with the doctor. The large mushroom shaped object in her lower abdomen is gone and the nodules on her right side are gone also. The oncologist was excited over this development and SO ARE WE! Thursday, the oxygen company came out and checked her system and changed a couple of portable bottles. Friday we went back for her 3rd chemo treatment. Today is Saturday and she is feeling good. I don't know if she wants me to tell this but she has lost another 20 pounds, that's over 40 in all. Hell of a way to loose weight, huh! Well anyway, we thank you all for your support, the food and most of all, your prayer's. Along with your prayers GOD is performing a miracle on Shari! Our spirits are soaring from the remission of the cancer. I will update soon so keep in touch with the blog.

Love to all,

Bob/Dad

p.s. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary Thursday: time really passes when your having fun, and I mean that.

Shari's Weekend

Hello Again Family & Friends,

This past weekend of the 12th thru the 14th was a special one for Shari. Her daughter, Jennifer, and Matt, Jennifers boy friend flew in from Denver. It was Shari's birthday so that was also a special treat for us all, especially her. Shari had a great visit and felt good during their stay here. They caught a plane back home yesterday afternoon which saddened Shari somewhat but she is better today. I thank all of you that sent her ecards for her birthday. We are still praying for a miracle so please continue your prayers also.

God Bless You All,

Bob/Dad

Saturday, March 6th

Boy, did Shari have a good day! She was her old self and got out in the front flower bed and pulled up some plants that got bit by the frost last month. She even growled at me once for I don't know what and that was good to hear. We went out shopping for some necessaries for us an hour or so and she didn't need her oxygen even once. All in all, it was a great day for her! Keep those prayers a coming.

Shari's Cancer Progress

Hello Everyone,

This is the first time I've ever blogged so excuse my ignorance about it. My oldest son Rob suggested that this is the best way for you all to keep up with Shari's progress during her cancer treatments, etc. Well, first I want to thank you all for your prayers for Shari; your prayers have been such a blessing to her and me also. Shari had her second bout of chemo yesterday. She was a little tired as we got there at 7:30am as they requested and came to find out that the chemo dept. doesn't open until 8:30am! They didn't take her until 11:00am and I'm hacked off about that. She was the second person there in the morning and they passed over her because I guess they only had two nurses there as they told Shari. Shari made me go home about 9:45am so I didn't get the benefit of raising hell about it! Anyway, she finished about 5:00pm and I picked her up and we got burgers on the way home as she was hungry for one. She went to bed around 9:00pm and we awoke about 5:30am. She is really in good spirit and is humming and feeling great! I'm so glad to see the sparkle in her eyes and a song in her heart. She has a new wig and I like it very much. It's kind of a dark auburn color and looks great on her, I think. That's about all for now, will update soon.

Pray, pray, pray for her,

Bob/Dad
